Pro System Design for Residential Off-Grid Systems: Bronze Package

If you are DIYing your solar, wind or hydro power system installation, do it as safe as possible and take the guess work out of building your off-grid system. Our partner solar engineers will provide you with a Pro System Design which means an integrated system of components such as an inverter, batteries, PV modules, charge controller, and balance of system. You'll later be provided with a complete parts list that will bring your energy goals to life.

Buy the right equipment the first time around and avoid costly return shipping fees, the hassle of having to resell open-box items, or worse - damage to your system or your home or office. An incorrect system design can lead to:

  • An undersized PV array not big enough to support a proper battery bank charge cycle, or not enough charge current to the battery bank on cloudy days.
  • An oversized PV array which is money wasted with no return on investment.
  • An undersized battery bank unable to meet overnight loads (consumption).
  • An incorrect initial battery choice which may impede your ability to expand the battery bank in the future.

Having a Pro System Design means having the correct over-current protection (OCP) and wire gauge sizing for system safety and continuous operation under load.

  • A safe system means proper OCP and wiring.
  • OCP protects wires from over-heating, and thus failing. An engineered system design includes proper OCP and wire sizing.

Knowledge is power! A Pro System Design includes:

  • Receiving requisite knowledge and know-how, so that you're able to understand the how and why of your own system design.
  • Receiving training how to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot your new system.
  • Being educated on the different battery types and which battery type is the best for your application.
  • Helping you understand the different inverter types and the choices available for your project. For example, do you need 240VAC for a well pump? Better pick the right inverter!
  • Learning what options are available to you for all your system components and that are capable of meeting your current and future needs.

Other Services Included

  • Pro System Design including wiring diagram (does not include local jurisdiction requirements for inspection)
  • Parts List Recommendation (i.e. components, wiring, tools, etc.)
  • Receive online educational reading material
  • 30-minute Design Discussion phone call

The design process would proceed as follows:

  • You will receive online reading material to understand photovoltaic systems and explain renewable energy concepts
  • You will receive a questionnaire asking you:
    • What are your objectives?
    • kWh of consumption
    • Battery storage needs, etc.
  • Your system will be designed based on your responses to the questionnaire
  • You will receive a parts list to purchase
  • You will receive a wiring diagram that you follow to install your system
  • You will have up to a 30 minute engineering support call to discuss the wiring diagram, so that you can understand what you will install

Once your Pro System Design is completed, you can take the design to a local engineer in your area to review for local code compliance and to stamp the plans!
