Helpful solar formulas you can use as a guide.

What amperage does my charge controller need to be?

Take the solar array's Watts and divide by the battery bank voltage to arrive at the approximate Amp Hour charge controller you will need.

Solar Array Wattage (W) / Battery Bank Voltage (V) = Charge Controller Amp Hours (Ah) Required

For example: 4000 watt solar array / 48 volt battery bank = 83 A charge controller required

What size battery charger do I need?

To determine the size battery charger you need in Amp Hours, take the total amp hours of all the batteries in your battery bank and multiply by 10%.

Total Battery Bank Amp Hours of x 0.10 = Charger Size Required

For example: 1000 Ah x 0.10 = 100 Ah charger required

How long will it take to charge my battery?

Take the total amp hours of all the batteries in your battery bank and divide by the charger amperage to arrive at the number of hours required to completely charge.

For example: 1000 Ah / A of charger = hours (h)
