What is the difference between OutBack Power's Sealed and Vented FXR Inverters?
Posted by OutBack Power Systems on Aug 22nd 2023
As is apparent from the power output (continuous power rating from specifications at the bottom of this document), the vented or units model number starting with V have a couple of advantages:
- Rated for a higher continuous output
- Longer AC overload capacity
- Higher battery charger output
- Suitable in a hotter climate
This is because they have a fan that's cooling the chassis and power electronics directly to the outside air. The electronics can run cooler and more efficiently.
However, if the inverter is installed in a humid or corrosive area, the sealed unit is the way to go. The sealed FXR unit will have generally lower output:
- The continuous power rating is lower
- Reduced AC overload capacity is reduced for durations over 5 seconds
- Reduced battery charger output
But it will have a longer life since the power electronics are not directly exposed to the atmosphere. Both units are pretty much identical otherwise.
